Welcome to Austin Natural Family Medicine

Welcome to Austin Natural Family Medicine

My focus is to guide each individual through the healing process and help him or her achieve physical, mental, and emotional well-being. As a Naturopathic doctor, I combine natural therapies with modern research and diagnostic tools to address the needs of the whole person. My goal is to provide you with effective solutions to your unique healthcare needs.

Natural medicine complements mainstream healthcare very well. As a Naturopath, I spend more time with my patients, enabling me to “fill in the gap” that is left over from short office visits. I can review dietary and lifestyle recommendations that other doctors simply don’t have time for, as well as educate you on your health concerns. I find this empowers patients to take better control of their own health.

In addition to spending more time with patients, Naturopathic doctors are uniquely qualified to recommend natural treatment options. We have more extensive training in clinical nutrition, homeopathy, and botanical medicine than MDs and chiropractors. Combined with our training in basic sciences such as biochemistry, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology, we have the skills to recognize potential herb, drug, and nutrient interactions, and can therefore be both safe and effective in our recommendations.

Everyone responds differently to every type of medicine. Naturopathic doctors have many tools at their disposal to provide you with many drug-free options so that together we can find an option that best suits you. Although some pharmaceuticals may be necessary and even life-saving, many more tend to be over-prescribed and can even have harmful side effects. I can recommend natural therapies to try before resorting to things that may cause harm in the long-term. Naturopaths are educated at the level of general practitioners, so we are able to recognize when a referral to a specialist or other type of healthcare provider is necessary.

Naturopathic medicine can help with any health condition, as the focus is on the whole person and not just a symptom or condition. Here are a few examples:

  • Pediatrics: children respond especially well to natural healing modalities, especially for teething, colds/flu, diarrhea, stomachaches, allergies, eczema, and asthma
  • Women's health: irregular or painful menses, PCOS, endometriosis, fertility issues, thyroid disorders, symptoms of menopause, common complaints during pregnancy and birth preparation
  • Gastrointestinal problems: nausea, constipation, hemorrhoids, diarrhea, digestive disturbances, Crohn's disease, IBS, heartburn, colitis
  • Allergic disorders: food allergies or intolerances, hayfever, Cedar fever, asthma, eczema
  • Any disorder that is not well- managed by conventional medicine, such as psoriasis,  fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, multiple sclerosis, and the side effects of chemotherapy, radiation, and other medications
  • Prevention, wellness, and natural and eco-friendly options to enhance your current plan

I hope that by reading my website, you learn that you are in control of your own healthcare. Health is more than merely the absence of disease. If you are ready to proceed down a path to wellness, you've come to the right place!
